How to Prepare for a Hurricane in South Florida

As any south Floridian knows, hurricane season is a fact of life. Each year, tropical storms and hurricanes threaten to cause damage to homes and property.
While it is impossible to completely prevent damage from a hurricane, there are steps that homeowners can take to minimize the risk.
Here are the most important steps to take to protect yourself, your family, and your property:
- Create an emergency kit. This should include enough food, water, and supplies to last for at least three days.
- Shelter in a safe location, whether that’s at home with impact windows or shutters or evacuating to a safer location.
- Move all your outdoor furniture inside to avoid damages to your home or furniture.
- Fill up your vehicle with gas incase of a last minute evacuation mandate.
Whatever the plan is, it is important to practice it ahead of time so that everyone knows what to do in the event of a hurricane. By taking these precautions, homeowners can help to protect themselves and their property from the worst effects of a hurricane.
