What to Expect from Snowbird Season in South Florida

In recent years, south Florida has seen a very high influx of new full-time residents, with nearly 1,000 people moving to the state every day.
If you’re a native, you know what snowbird season is. But if you’re new here, you may not be so sure. So, what is snowbird season?
Snowbird season usually lasts from November through March or April, when hundreds of thousands of northerners flock to south Florida to escape the cold and enjoy our Florida “winter.”
So, with so many new part-time residents, what should you expect to see and experience?
Here are the top 3 answers from locals:
Traffic
Get ready to see a rainbow display of license plates on the roads. With so many new people, comes tons of new cars and lots of traffic. Plan to leave the house a bit earlier than you usually would to get to your destination on time.
Be extra careful on the road!
Crowds
Snowbird season makes the cities come to life! The crowds in downtown areas and beaches are lively, which makes going out on the town so much more fun.
The biggest takeaway from this, make a reservation! Don’t expect to be able to walk into busy restaurants and get a table right away, this may not be the case anymore. Otherwise, expect to wait in line!
Also, call ahead for any appointments – hair, nails, etc. Walk-in appointments may be a thing of the past for the next few months.
Price Increases in Vacation Rentals & Hotel Rates
Excited for the family to come to town? We hope you planned ahead!
Vacation rentals and hotel rates always increase drastically this time of year. It’s a prime vacation spot for winter break and the holiday season. To avoid this costly mistake, book a stay a few months before the season actually begins.
