Old Floresta is the neighborhood where Boca Raton's architectural identity began. Developed by Addison Mizner in the 1920s, the neighborhood was named "Floresta," meaning a delightful rural place in Spanish. The city designated it Boca Raton's first historic district in 1990. No other neighborhood in the city has that history on paper.

Old Floresta sits just east of I-95 in East Boca Raton, bounded by Palmetto Park Road to the south and the streets of Periwinkle and NW 6th to the north. It is a small, non-gated neighborhood of single-family homes on narrow streets named after flowering plants, Hibiscus, Oleander, Alamanda, Periwinkle, a detail that reflects how deliberately Mizner designed the community from the ground up.

The homes reflect Mizner's signature style: rough-finished stucco walls, barrel tile roofs, wrought iron balconies, and deep window and door reveals. Many of the original homes have been renovated and updated while maintaining the exterior character that the historic district designation requires. Two properties within the neighborhood carry individual historic designations: the Fred C. Aiken House at 801 Hibiscus Street and the Lavender House at 875 Alamanda Street. Both are recognized examples of the Mediterranean Revival architecture that defines Old Floresta.

There is no HOA. Homeowners within the historic district are required to obtain a certificate of appropriateness from the City of Boca Raton's Historic Preservation Board before making any exterior changes. Interior renovations are not affected.

Day-to-day life in Old Floresta is well-positioned without feeling removed. I-95 is around five minutes away, connecting north to West Palm Beach and south to Fort Lauderdale for work or a weekend. Mizner Park is around seven minutes for dining, retail, and the cultural calendar that comes with it. The Boca Raton Resort and Club is around 12 minutes, and South Beach Park is a short drive east. For a neighborhood with streets this quiet, the access is hard to match.
